Auto wind load generation for roof/purlins..

Frequently used for design of all steel structure with shed/roof

CONCERN CODE(ALL) especially IS 875 part 3: 1-Sir, staad CE has support the auto wind load as for clad/unclad buildings, this wind load is applied on the surfaces/periphery of buildings or the same is applied on the exposed members of structure, but as far as the wind load for roof/purlin is considered, there isnt automated option for purlin/roof wind load, we hve put much more manual efforts for applying wind load on roof/purlin as per conditions of roof, like for curved roof, monoslope roof, pitched roof, combined roof, toothed roof etc, for each roof we have to calculate wind load and its coefficient manually, and the same is applied on roof purlins, in addition to this, for some roof, there are trial and error process for applying wind load, like calculate the solidity ratio from exposed member width and depth and then apply wind load on roof purlins. If the member is failed in strengh/serviceability criteria, we have to revise the member and have to repeat the same procedure again for calulating the solidity ratio and apply wind load again, this is much more tedious abd time consuming process, kindly automate this feature in staad for all types and shapes of roof/roof purlins...... Also for the roof/purlins that is in uneven shape.. 2. Also automate the feature of dynamic wind load such as gust factor etc particularly for indian code...

It is a matter of concern that, in staad pro, the features available for applying wind load is not fully automatic (unlike other design softwares) , but there is much more lacking in it, which is briefly described as below, There is automatic application of wind load only for few types/shapes of roofs/structures ,like rectangular building, pitched roof, mono slope roofs. For many other types of roofs, like saw toothed roof, cantilever roof, multispan pitched roof, combined roof, inverted pitched roof, inverted mono slope roofs, cylindrical shaped structures etc, the automation of wind load is not available, (or available partly). Moreover, automatic wind load for all types and shapes of "ROOF PURLINS", "COMMUNICATION TOWERS", wind load on circular or elliptical shaped column is not available in staad, local wind coefficient (for corner pressures) is not available, AutoWind load application is available only for global X and Z directions, but wind load in angles like 45⁰,135⁰,225⁰,270⁰,315⁰ needs to implement. It is very demanding that wind load in staad should be available for all types of roofs and purlins with Full automation and can be applied with few clicks, For illustration, refer "TABLE NO. 04 to 24" of IS 875 part -3", refer following snaps 1st snap: wind load on roof purlins 2nd snap: wind load on frames.

Thank you for posting this idea. We do have this in our backlog as reported in the idea 'Auto Wind Load for roofing'
