Spring Support

Spring supports are created only in a particular direction. For e.g. base/soil springs. negative displacement is considered as compression. what if a steel base plate is to be modelled below a concrete slab. There is no way to create a compression spring.

Can you provide an illustration of the situation you are attempting to model and your expectation of the structural behaviour? of the column and slab. It seems that you are aware that supports can be defined with springs as compression or tension only. You need to consider carefully and assign the appropriate support to the appropriate model node.

No, compression only springs wont work as the soil/concrete grade is top of base plate. STAAD cannot identify which side is the subgrade.

Thank you for posting this idea. However this is achieved by assigning this as a compression only spring.
