Flexibility of Eccentricity Limit in Combined Footings in STAAD Foundation Advanced (SFA) Version 24

Problem Description:

STAAD Foundation Advanced version 24(SFA) imposes an eccentricity limit of 300 mm in both directions when designing combined footings. This restriction limits the ability to accurately model combined footings with eccentricities greater than this value, which are common in certain engineering projects.

Detailed Problem:

  • The 300 mm eccentricity limit is an absolute restriction, preventing the modeling of eccentric combined footings when project conditions require it.

  • This limitation was not present in previous versions of STAAD Foundation (V9), suggesting it is a restriction introduced in more recent versions.

Improvement Proposal:

It is proposed to make the eccentricity limit in combined footings in STAAD Foundation Advanced (SFA) more flexible to allow modeling of footings with eccentricities greater than 300 mm. The following options are suggested:

  • Allow user to define eccentricity limit: Provide an option for the user to enter the desired eccentricity limit, adapting to the needs of each project.

  • Implement a warning system instead of an absolute limit: Instead of preventing the creation of footings with eccentricities greater than 300 mm, the program could display a warning to the user, indicating potential risks and requesting confirmation.

  • Offer alternative analysis options: Provide the user with analysis options that are applicable to combined footings with eccentricities greater than 300 mm.

Benefits:

  • Greater flexibility in combined footing design: Allow modeling of footings with eccentricities greater than 300 mm, adapting to the needs of each project.

  • Greater accuracy in modeling: Avoid the need to resort to alternative solutions that may not be as accurate.

  • Greater efficiency in design: Save time and effort by not having to resort to alternative solutions.

Your suggestion has been added to the backlog. The development group will decide how this can be addressed.
