I Need to design lot of platforms with cantilever beams. Tapered channel is easy to fabricate in plate and most economical section for cantilever conditions. Hence I request you to include this options in the staad. Moreover, tapered I is already available, hence Tapered channel is symmetrically half of the I sections
Thank you for posting this idea. It is an interesting proposal. There are many possible arrangements that would need to considered. In your example you are showing flanges and web that have the same thickness, but I would expect that those could be different. The most common situation I suspect is where the bottom flange is the same width as the top flange. However, if you are fabricating from plate, would it be reasonable to assume that the flanges are different widths? Also as this is an unsymmetrical section, unlike any other taper profile STAAD supports, the behaviour with regard to torsion / minor axis bending, would depend on whether the flange extends to the left or right. When you say design what rules are you currently using to design these? Are there special conditions to check or are you suggesting that just those from IS 800-2007 LSD is adequate?
If this tapered channel modelling is available, it will be very much useful in creating economic and efficient cantilever beam designs.
