For the Rolled sections, it is easy to know the b/t and d/t values. However, for Built up sections, it is bit tricky. Staad Output file directly reports the Section classification. It would give more clarity during member Optimization if these values are reported in Output file.

As allowable stresses of Steel members depends upon its Section classification , so it is an important criteria in Steel Design. In the Staad Output file, section classification of web and flange element is reported as Plastic or Compact but values is not shown. Now , the limit of the values can be different in different codes but the values of b/t and d/t is a property of Steel Section which will be same across the globe. These values become more important in case of Built up Sections or Box sections because the depth or thickness are not showing graphically hence difficult to explain to Clients. So, kindly resolve this issue. Thanks
Thank you for posting this idea. However, it would help if you could clarify the idea a little and provide details of how this would help engineers deliver their project? I believe that you are trying to get more clarification on the section section classification beyond the class. As each design code has different requirements, we have to design each output accordingly. Are you looking at the IS800 design code or have another one in mind.
